A social enterprise organization, African Boreholes Initiative (ABI) was founded and registered in Kenya in 2005.

African Boreholes Initiative was founded, as a social enterprise with a commitment to humanitarian goals, built around pro-poor technologies and approaches. The services and products we provide are cost effective and are offered by skilled professionals and a dedicated workforce.

African Boreholes Initiative has both promoted and developed a number of innovative and cost effective products that are well adapted to the Kenyan and African context in general. Our novel low-cost drilling and well construction techniques have earned international recognition. We also carry out consultancy services with the water and sanitation sector and provide training. Our clients include NGOs, international humanitarian organizations and the private sector.

Our goal for water is to ensure communities have the capacity to develop, operate and maintain their water sources in a sustainable way. Hence our focus on 'social enterprises' . This happens when markets are created for products that are manufactured or grown by low income households or groups. We are committed to re-investing a percentage of profits into other social enterprises.
